ASAP CELEBRATES 10TH YEAR !
by Randy Cabell August 2004

The CYSCA Armenia School Aid Project (ASAP) celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and has recently completed three major projects. First, thanks to Edward Shooshanian, the renovation of school #3 in the remote town of Berd bordering Azerbaijan, became a reality. Funded with $30,000 from his friends the amount was matched with free labor from the town of Berd.

A second major project, made possible by a $25,000 bequest from the estate of educator Alice Ohanasian, allowed installation of new water and sewerage systems in two schools, Gavar #1 and a neighboring village school in Saroukhan #3, near Lake Sevan.

The third project, with five thousand dollars of donations in-lieu-of-flowers in memory of Olivia Bakamjian, mother of CYSCA board member, Seta Sullivan was used to buy computer software at the school for the blind and to renovate a floor of the school. Other funds were donated by Carolyn Mugar, Edward Guleserian, Charles Guleserian, Shakeh Iskenderian, Tad Sudnick and Gregory Adamian. Monetary gifts made on their birthdays by friends of Mardig and Eliz Petrossian, Shushik Martirosian, and Lili Kocharian brought the total amount processed to $63,724 donated to 14 schools
